The STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate is the mandatory entry-level qualification required by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW 1978, as amended 2010 Manila). No seafarer may be employed on a seagoing vessel without holding a valid BST certificate, making this the single most important qualification in the maritime industry. This programme covers the four core elements of BST as defined in STCW Regulation VI/1 and the associated Sections A-VI/1-1 through A-VI/1-4 of the STCW Code: Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Firefighting, Elementary First Aid, and Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities. Each element is treated with the depth and rigour required for genuine competency, not merely tick-box compliance. Upon successful completion and passing the proctored assessment at 70% or higher, candidates receive a MarCert Global BST Certificate that satisfies the documentation requirements of STCW Regulation VI/1. The certificate is blockchain-verified and publicly verifiable, meeting the needs of flag state administrations and port state control inspectors worldwide.
